When you are cheap but need burgers.
« on: May 25, 2023, 12:42:28 PM »

The GF wants a picnic just burgers and dogs for Memorial Day. I think there will be 15-20 people, and finding decent burgers that are not $6+ pound is not easy to do. She figures 35 or so burgers, I think that may be over kill.  Ordered ground chuck at the little market I buy meat from a lot of the time, said give me 16-18 pound. I got 17,and it was only 3 bucks a pound, I would have just bought burgers from them but they only run a 4 oz. patty and I wanted to do 5 oz.

Broke got scale out 140ish grams each and then in the burger press. I ended up with 53 and a lighter one for my lunch. They are  in the freezer and tomorrow I will cut the stacks apart and bag and what we are not making will get vac sealed for us. I don't use this patty maker often but it is nice to have when I need to do a bigger quantity.

These will end up cooked on the gas grill till almost done, then in to the roaster with some onions on the bottom, and beef broth with some, salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, a little tequila and some whatsthathere sauce.

One of my old shooting buddies said he will come if there are baked beans, so will have them, and some Asian noddles.

Last time I was looking for ground beef, I bought a brisket and ground it since it was cheaper than the ground beef.

That is an impressive burger press.  Got more pics of it?
Mine is a cheap one. It works, but not ideal.

I have a contraption on my LEM grinder that spits out square burgers like Wendy's size and then you have to cut them.  It comes right out of the grinder through a die onto a ramp that has rolled paper that the burger comes out on and moves along the ramp until you stop the machine with the foot pedal.  I have yet to use it.

I have seen those, I have  one for the cabelas grinder it pushed them in  to a 2 chamber mold, then you just slide the mold back and forth to empty as it fills them.

Mine is a cheap one. It works, but not ideal.

I didn't really find out until yesterday morning we were doing this, she mentions things, I kind of pay attention enough and wait for confirmation of said mentioned thing.

The one I have I bought from Ebay, it is a 5" and you can do 1/2 pounders but 7 oz works better. They have them in 4,5 and 6" I would like to have a 4" one also or better yet just the part to be able to change mine. 2 nuts to remove and the size could be swapped, I have not been able to find change over kits only whole presses.

Here is a link to one on Ebay. It shows the 3 sizes and I thin I saw a 4.5" once somewhere.

Isn't to bad to clean, I will wrap the plate that the burger sits on in the well with plastic wrap and even the top, just to help make clean up a little better. For clean up, I usually just end up grabbing about 4 Clorox or disinfectant wipes and clean it and wipe it down well.

The button on the side you push and the plate drops in to the well, then I put t paper in the meat and kind of press it so it is below the top of the well and another paper on top, pull the handle towards you, you can feel when it stops, then lift the handle and the plat in side lifts up so you can remove the patty.

Sorry I tried to do the hyper link to the word above but I am not smart enough, i even went back and did a search YLR did a message explaining it but I messed it up.

Also here is a video from Globe on how it works, globe brand is big bucks compared to the ebay one.
