Hmmm, not to be critical of your new neighbors, but I don't think they know what real chili is.  I mean, the winner has beans and corn, second place is chicken and third is vegetarian (there really is no such thing as veggie chili, it is just a veggie stew with spices-- I know because I make one).  The people of Texas may invade your state and start distributing chili block by block!!!! :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

Kristen, your observations would be correct. The person with the biggest family usually wins these kinds of events! With no criteria for judging it becomes very subjective. Since it is all in good fun I don't have a problem with it.

However, I think I will suggest that instead of first, second and third place awards they go with something like: Peoples Choice, Judges Choice, and Best Non-Traditional Chili.

I'm with you, beans, no beans, but does need meat for me, not sure I would want some sort of tofu chili, but hey I would probably try it who am I kidding.
Give me some fritos or oyster crackers and a spoon.
