Super Blood Wolf Moon
« on: January 07, 2019, 11:25:18 AM »

An unusual thing will happen to the moon this month.
  • On the night of the 20th to the 21st, the full moon will be as close to the earth as it ever gets, so it will appear to be unusually large.
  • It will also pass into the Earth’s shadow, creating a total lunar eclipse.
  • It won’t be illuminated by direct sunlight as it usually is.
  • We will still be able to see it because it will be illuminated by sunlight that is refracted by the Earth’s atmosphere.
  • The refracted light will cause it to be red.

Name Clarification–

Moon close to Earth…called a Super Moon
Red moon from total lunar eclipse…called a Blood Moon
January’s full moon…known as Wolf Moon

Will do, Bar-B-Lew.
I realize that I need a clear night.
We won't be in (overcast) West Michigan on those dates. We'll be in Mesa and the chances are very certain for clear visibility.

Go to this web site https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/usa/culpeper.

Put in your own city for eclipse details.

As you can see, the maximum eclipse for Culpepper will be 12:12 AM.

You may want to take a nap, Bentley.

Late Entry -

Camera Problems!!
Nikon needs to be sent to repair facility. I'm going to take it as it is and hopefully can get it to function OK while on vacation.
No time now to get it serviced prior to our trip.

I HATE IT WHEN EQUIPMENT GOES AQRY!!

If Mesa is in AZ,  check with Tempe Camera.  They may be able to help.

When the moon comes out of the Earth's shadow and is, again, white, it will be the brightest full moon in about 17 years and will hold that distinction until 2096.
